2019 SUMMER CAMPS

Spartan Rookie Camp

The UNCG Spartan Rookie camp is for girls age 5—9 who are beginners and/or also have aspirations of playing softball at the collegiate level. This 2-day camp opportunity will have participants divided into competitive groups for all sessions. Each session will primarily focus on the basics for all areas of the game, including offensive, defense and position specific work. This camp *will *include opportunities for pitchers and catchers.

  • Participants will be split into age/skill specific groups during camp
  • The fundamentals of infield, outfield, pitching, catching will all be addressed during this session
  • This camp will cover the specifics of throwing, glove work and footwork necessary to improve all aspects of defensive play
  • The hitting portion of camp will focus on fundamentals of the swing.
  • We will introduce multiple drills and cover strategies to improve as a hitter
  • There will be ample opportunity to improve over this 2-day camp while working with the Spartans. Current UNCG coaches and players will provide individual attention to each participant to ensure all questions and drills are clearly covered and explained

THINGS TO KNOW
  • Players are encouraged to bring their own equipment, including catching equipment if available
  • Participants will be grouped according to age and skill level
  • Water and Gatorade will provided throughout the camp session
  • Check-in will be held at the UNCG Softball Stadium and will begin at 10:00 AM
  • Directions & confirmation will be sent via EMAIL
  • All players MUST bring both camp waivers (Camp Medical Form & Parent Consent Form) signed by a parent/guardian in order to participate. Both forms can be found on the website

Spartan Day Camp

The UNCG Spartan Day camp is for girls entering grades 4-12 who have aspirations of playing softball at the collegiate level. This 2-day camp will have participants divided into competitive groups for all sessions. Each session focuses on team strategies but also includes individual skill work beyond the basics for all areas of the game, including offensive, defense and position specific work. This camp *will *include opportunities for pitchers and catchers.

  • Participants will be split into age/skill specific groups during camp
  • Infield, outfield, pitching, catching and situational defensive play will all be addressed during this session
  • This camp will cover the specifics of glove work, footwork and fundamentals necessary to improve all aspects of defensive play, including throwing and transferring of the ball
  • The hitting portion of camp will focus on fundamentals of the swing.
  • We will introduce multiple drills and cover strategies to improve as a hitter
  • Participants will benefit from the use of video analysis to breakdown the swing.
  • Speed and agility drills will be implemented into camp to improve quickness on the bases and to the ball on defense

THINGS TO KNOW
  • Players are encouraged to bring their own equipment, including catching equipment if available
  • Participants will be grouped according to age and skill level
  • Lunch will NOT be provided, lunch break will be 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
  • Water and Gatorade will provided throughout the camp session and for lunch
  • Check-in will be held at the UNCG Softball Stadium and will begin at 9:30 AM
  • Directions & confirmation will be sent via EMAIL
  • All players MUST bring both camp waivers (Camp Medical Form & Parent Consent Form) signed by a parent/guardian in order to participate. Both forms can be found on the website.

Prospect Camp

This single day camp will have participants divided into competitive groups for all sessions. Campers will work on basics and fundamentals of the game as well as build on existing skills to elevate their game, including offensive, defense and position specific work. This camp *will *include opportunities for pitchers and catchers.

  • Participants will be split into age/skill specific groups during camp
  • The fundamentals of infield, outfield, pitching, catching will all be addressed during this session
  • The hitting portion of camp will focus on fundamentals of the swing and will incorporate drills and strategies of our team
  • The use of video will be implemented to give visual concepts

THINGS TO KNOW
  • Players are encouraged to bring their own equipment, including catching equipment if available
  • Participants will be grouped according to age and skill level
  • Water and Gatorade will provided throughout the camp session
  • Check-in will be held at the UNCG Softball Stadium and will begin at 9:15 AM
  • Directions & confirmation will be sent via EMAIL
